She became a member of New York City Ballet in 1968. In 1971, she joined the American Ballet Theater where she danced principle roles in all the < grands classiques > in Don Quixote, Swan Lake, Giselle, La Fille mal gardée, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, Coppelia, La Sylphide and in productions of Rudolf Nureyev, Natalia Makarova, Erik Bruhn and Mikhail Baryshnikov. Her repertoire included choreographies by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Antony Tudor, Frederick Ashton, Alvin Ailey, Rudy van Dantzig, Twyla Tharp, Lar Lubovitch, John Neumeier, Kenneth MacMillan, Glen Tetley, Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, Roland Petit...
In 1973, she performed George Balanchine's Apollo, dancing with Mikhail Baryshnikov at the Chicago International Festival.
In 1983, upon the recommendation of Peter Martins, Director of New York City Ballet, she became co-director of the Dallas Fort-Worth Ballet with Michel Rahn and over 4 years restaged the repertoire of Balanchine and the classics.
Since 1987, Nanette Glushak has been staging the works of George Balanchine throughout the world. She, also, has been invited as guest teacher and stager of the classical repertoire. Among the companies she has worked for are the Stuttgart Ballet, the Royal Ballet of England, the Berlin Opera Ballet, the Birmingham Royal Ballet, the Ballet of la Scala, the English National Ballet, the National Ballet of Norway, the Dutch National Ballet, the Rome Opera Ballet, the Royal Ballet of Flanders, the Ballet of the San Carlo Theatre, the Hungarian National Ballet, the Ballet du Théâtre de Bordeaux, the Lyon Opéra Ballet, the Ballet of Malmö, the Bavarian State Ballet, the Ballet National de Marseille Pietragalla, the Aterballetto, the Ankara National Ballet, the Ballet du Nord, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, the Vienna Opera Ballet, the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Geneve, the Ballet of Saragosse (Spain), the Ballet of Berne (Switzerland), the Ballet of Mainz, the Ballet of Leipzig and the company from Firenze, Maggio Danza.
In 1989, she was appointed as Artistic Director of the Scottish Ballet.
Nanette Glushak has been the Director of the Ballet du Capitole (Toulouse) since 1994.
In 2004, she has restaged many Tribute to Balanchine to mark the centenary of his birth, at the Royal Ballet of England, Royal Ballet of Sweden, Stuttgart Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, Maggio Danza (Firenze), Vienna Staatsoper, National Ballet of Slovenia...
